If ever there was a blog which says “Manchester now” this is it. For anyone struggling to get onto the housing ladder and aspiring to live the city centre apartment “dream” – this blog could be a sobering experience but is definitely essential reading.
Poor build quality, sloppy landlords, rowing neighbours et al are laid bare for all to see by this unnamed blogger – who also appears to be an estate agent!
Started in April this year, Rentergirl (dyslexic searchers hoping for a Manc version of Belle de Jour could be disappointed) is the day-to-day of life renting in the city centre. It’s humourous and witty and very much a story of our times.
As she says:
“RenterGirl is about renting property. We didn’t all make it onto to the property ladder. We don’t all have a dream home. We move from rented flat to rented flat, dealing with lazy landlords, and neighbours, good and bad. We endure the tribulations of newbuild housing complexes, and the insecurity of never knowing how long you can stay in one place, or indeed, if you want to. Many of my friends live this way. I live in Dovecot Towers (so called because it’s built stacked up like a dovecot – or a filing cabinet for humans).”
Having also spent several years living like this, I found this blog both truthful and delightful. A worthy winner.

If your gonna mouth it….do it it in a way you can sell it.ok.
