Manchester Blog Awards: My best bits

It was a night of blog talk, live blogging, beer and pizza – but most of all it was a chance to put names to blogs and celebrate the success story which is Manchester’s thriving blogosphere.
Here’s my personal picks of the night.
Quote of the night
“Blogging has meant I’ve made some really nice friends” said Chris Killen, author and Day of Moustaches blogger. I’m always fascinated by people’s motivation to blog (subject I’m brewing a post about for my personal blog) but this seems as good a reason as any – and in my experience – all true. In a short post-awards Q&A, Chris also went on to explain how his blogging activity is different to his formal writing, giving him greater freedom and the opportunity to make mistakes and try things out. Oh, and for the record, his favourite food isn’t chips, it’s cottage pie.
Quirk of the night
Seeing the previously anonymous blogger behind Manchester Buses effectively “out” himself by virtue of his own live streaming/tweeting of his award collection. Time to take a public bow M………
Gripe of the night
Why talk through the presentations? Having made it to the venue, you could at least give those with the guts to get up on stage the respect of five minutes hush. Just blog off next year!
Thanks of the night
Have to go to Kate Feld of the Manchizzle blog for promoting, haranguing and generally pulling together the event. Having been one of the judges this year, I remain impressed by her calm professionalism and just hope she’s got the energy to do it all again next year.
Well done again to all the winners. I shall be doing a round-up of the best blogging activity from the night – don’t forget to tag your content #mcrblog so that I can find it all, or drop me an email to point me at it.
