12 seconds of fame or a (very) quick chat

I’ve been noticing a wave of experimentation going on across the social media platforms I use for 12secondstv. It’s one of those “does what it says” tools – 12 seconds of live streaming video. Not 13 or 15 if you need it – 12. Which, in just the same way that twitter enforces brevity with the 140 character tweets, means no waffle room.
So is it possible to get your message across in 12 seconds flat? Well I’ve done my best – just see the clip here.

But to think that’s the last word is to misunderstand the nature of this, and other similar, applications which are contributing to the tide of change sweeping across the way we don’t just consume, but also participate in, in these web 2.0 days.
Of course 12 seconds isn’t the end – I wasn’t broadcasting when I made this clip, it’s not a pronouncment from me to be received passively by you.
No, this is the start of a potential always-on conversation – my 12 seconds is the opener for your 12 seconds.
Along with the mass, and often enthusiastic, take-up of tools such as this usually comes the naysayers who are just as quick to write off this sort of practice as yet another example of our fickle, attention deficit, time-pressured society.
But to see it merely as a way of grabbing an (albeit zoomed down) version of that fabled “15 minutes of fame” is to misundersand its essence. This is about connecting people – so what are waiting for? Grab your 12 seconds and let me know.
