Blog of the Week

We might like going to the cinema, but we love film. Film creates passionate responses, and a passion for film, film-making and film-makers is well-served in Manchester by this week’s blog of the week, run by Lesley Anne Rose at the Northern Film Network. With 2,500 members the network has provided a range of services to the film community in the city and beyond since 2000, but whereas it began with a static website and an email newsletter – it’s now the NFN blog which should be on every film maker or film lover’s feed.
As Lesley Anne writes this week “it’s festival season in the north and the number of fab film fests hitting the region’s screens is rising to fever pitch over the coming weeks” highlighting great events for film buffs and bluffers alike at Salford Film Festival, and at exposures, Manchester’s new talent festival.
NFN’s blog looks lovely, and is integrated into their website in a way that is seamless. You’ll find invites to major industry events alongside invites to visual art, mondo movies, and opportunities for actors, writers, cameramen and others.
It’s that wide-ranging sense of what is “film today” that makes me think that anyone interested in the medium should be looking at the NFN blog regularly, and using it as a forum to post your own news. There’s no comments facility as yet, but given how few local film bloggers there appear to be, I’m pleased to recommend it as Manchester “Blog of the Week.”
