Tonight’s Social Media Cafe proved to be an interesting affair. Guest speaker Heather Corcoran from Liverpool’s FACT told the assembled crowd at The Northern about some of the networked art projects she’s been involved in before throwing the evening open to questions from the floor.
For this second SMC event, the northern quarter’s Julian Tait of Littlestar TV provided monitors so that there was a backchannel of discussion as well as a projection of the websites which Heather talked people through.
Debates which sprang up varied from the merits of 50 50Cent videos as an art form, if backchannels inhibit debate, whether geek is the new sexy and is computer code a legitimate activity for an artist.
I intend to edit some video of the presentation together tomorrow – together with some bookmarks on stuff mentioned tonight but in the meantime – here are a few Qik streams and also the ongoing #smc_mcr to be going along with.
