Blog of the week: B of the Blog

This week’s pick of the posts is a community initiative for east Manchester. The bang may be burst, but the B lives on with this multi-author blog which aims to be the voice of Beswick, Clayton and Openshaw.
At the moment, the army of “community reporters” is concentrating on producing content to help save its users money – there’s soon to be calendars for next year which can be downloaded for free as well as tips of DIY manicures and even baking soda bread.
The project is part of the East Manchester Community Reporters programme run by MCIN (Manchester Community Information Network) which has trained up a number of people in blogging, making audio, video and working with text and pictures.
The project’s David Kay explains: “At the moment I guess we have about 20/30 who blog on a regular basis.
“The idea of the site is to reflect the stories of people from east Manchester which is why you’ll find an unusual mix.
“We deliberately wanted to create that kind of mix rather than get people to create lots of separate blogs which might not “interact” with each other.
“So people might stumble across the site looking for manicuring tips and end up putting their name down on a waiting list for an allotment!”

We are always hunting around for blogs or websites to feature here, and in Saturday’s M.E.N on the e-view page so, if you’ve got one to nominate, submit a link below or contact us. The only criteria is that they have some connection with Manchester.
