Iranian women blog for football

I’ve been off work for a couple of days so probably wouldn’t have heard this radio item under any other circumstance but thought  it interesting enough to share to a wider audience.

According to Woman’s Hour on Radio Four, there’s a vertitable army of young women blogging in Iran. Despite Governmental restrictions and the usual technological difficulties, the programme caluculated 22,000 such bloggers.

The interview you can hear here focuses on a woman who fights for the right for women to attend football matches – something that is currently outlawed.

Other female bloggers cover a range of topics you might expect anywhere – everything from relationships to politics.

I found it inspiring to hear how the communication tools and rights we perhaps take for granted are being employed to make a difference to women’s lives elsewhere.

If anyone has links or support petitions etc. for the campaigning activity, please feel free to point me at them.
