Here’s something to cut out and keep for every online enthusiast around – the 100 must-do sites for the year ahead from The Guardian.
As well as some of the expected newcomers for this year, such as Chrome browsers, and the completely essential Twitter, it’s interesting to see how short some categories are now as services and tools quickly shakedown into hits and misses.
Take blogging as an example, the list in 2006 had a total of ten suggesstions (and that will have been just a tiny proportion of everything on offer at the time if you think back), but today’s list has reduced to just two recommendations as they say;
“Now as easy as falling off a log.
Bloglines bloglines.com for reading web feeds. Smart and clean.
Wordpress wordpress.com free, and most importantly spam-free, blogging.”
And that’s how it will no doubt be as we move forward – huge numbers of competitors then a shakedown to one or two universally accepted options.
I’ll certainly be checking back to this list in the months to come.
