Budding comedy writers have just a few days left to be in with a chance of getting published in a book currently being compiled online.
Entries for a new collection of works are needed for TwitterTitters – a book which will use the web 2.0 publishing platform Lulu to be sold to raise cash for Comic Relief.
It’s the second Manchester charity fundraiser to use the micro-blogging platform Twitter to mobilise, promote and organise a campaign this month, following hot on the heels of the city’s first Twestival.
Levenshulme-based journalist Louise Bolotin is one the duo behind the plan. I caught up with her at the Twestival (see the video clip in the rather dark venue below) and found out more.
She told me: “The idea behind TwitterTitters was to see if we could harness the power of Twitter to create a book of quality humorous short stories and raise lots of money for Red Nose Day (Comic Relief) and do it all within a couple of weeks.
“We launched only a week ago and have had an amazing response. We really hope some of the stand-up comedians on Twitter will lend their support for this great cause; lots of tweeters who have been retweeting our callouts to get involved are chatting to people like @Wossy and @stephenfry and @frankieboyle.
“We also have a crack team of literary judges who will decide on the final contents of the book, which will be available from Lulu.com, all proceeds to Comic Relief.”
So if you want to raise a titter, or a full belly laugh, the clock is ticking – the closing date is this Friday, February 20. The TwitterTitters twitterstream is @tweehee.
