Big Chips and Little Burgers

A digital diary clash saw me forsaking the Social Media Cafe in the Northern, for Manchester Digital’s “Big Chip Awards” networking event at Bar38. Which of course means that Mancunian Way readers get both blogged about.
It made me think, that there must have been around 150 digital types downing the digi-juice across Manchester last night, not bad for the 2nd city.
The Big Chip Awards is now in its 11th year, and it evolves each year. Following the sad death of Tony Wilson, not only Mr. Manchester but the regular host of the event and a big supporter of Digital Manchester – Terry Christian stepped in last year – I forgot to ask whether post-Big Brother he was going to be the compere this year. Another change is that because of the event selling out the last few years its moving this year to the Palace on Oxford Road, hopefully this doesn’t mean we’ll get Chubby Brown or Ricky Hatton as the presenter!
Shaun Fensom, head of Manchester Digital, gave a short presentation about the awards – free to enter in up to two categories, but with a cost for further entries – and the judging process. “Read the instructions” being the much repeated, and often ignored mantra.
After all that Big Chip stuff it was time for the little burgers, which unfortunately had all gone by the time I got to the buffet. I did bring up the Social Media Cafe twitter stream on the screen, so I felt I was there in spirit if not in reality. The closing date, by the way, is 16th March, so not too much time left to get your entries in. No blog of the year award, I’m afraid, as I’m sure the Mancunian Way would be in the running…
