This week’s pick of the posts comes this way thanks to the eco-efforts of one man attempting to live a “sustainarian” existence.
Chorlton’s Tim McMahon is blogging his efforts to cut down on waste, make sustainable choices and find a different way to live.
He says: I’m guinea-pigging myself into a more sustainable lifestyle in accordance with the transition movement – early days yet.
“I’m trying to keep to writing about sustainable developments, successes and failures, but as it’s personal there will of course be rants. I plan to run it for a minimum of one year, weighing my trash and monitoring recycling, energy use etc… and hopefully this will prove or disprove that the ‘good life’ is possible.”
As a green blogger, Tim is careful to explain the reasoning behind his decisions rather than simply follow the herd on issues such as veganism good = meat products bad.
As this post reasons: “I’ve stopped being vegan, I’m going sustainatarian. Organic British butter smacks vegan spread in its dirty palm oil face for example. I don’t eat a lot of animal so I can afford to make sure they’re from an acceptable source when I do – the embedded carbon of meat and fish troubles me still so my stance may change soonish.”
Most recently he’s been looking into ethical energy suppliers and banks as well as campaigning for local independent retailers close to home.
As he says: “I feel that if I document my life and tell it like it is, I might be able to look back on it and define where the problems lie and how to overcome them.
In short – I’m attempting to ‘become the change I wish to see in the world’.”

We will be hunting around for blogs or websites to feature on the MEN’s e-view page every Saturday as well as add to this blogroll so, if you’ve got one to nominate, submit a link below. The only criteria is that they have some connection with Manchester.
