No Skinny for Manchester

Kate Feld at Manchizzle reports today that the expected launch of Scottish listing magazine The Skinny has been shelved.

Manchester’s media watchers will be aware there’s been speculation about the plans since HowDo reported their activities back in February.

But it seems those denials are to be borne out according to Kate. Within an excellent round-up of the city’s zines and some other publications, she says;

“The Skinny, the Glasgow listings magazine that was planning a Manchester edition, has now reportedly shelved those plans. They started posting a bit of MCR content online, but stopped short of launching a print mag. Just like Time Out. That’s right, we got stood up again. (sniff.) Come on, what’s wrong with us? We deserve a what’s on magazine just as much as anyone else does, dammit. Is it something we said?”

Rosamund West, editor of The Skinny confirmed it this evening. She told me;

“Yes we have shelved plans to develop our Manchester coverage further. We did invest some time investigating the possibility of launching online content for Manchester, and the results were very positive with feedback from a few industry types and freelancers. However, due to the economic climate and various changes within our Scottish operation, we’ve decided not to move plans any further forward until such a time as we can focus more of our energies on providing the best possible coverage for Manchester and arriving in the area with a bang. “

So there you have it. The city awaits…….
