As the mainstream media then reflected this major shift in public opinion, social media played a further role. People started talking on Facebook about how good Nick Clegg was, because they’d read it in the paper and saw it on the television. They started talking about whether to give the Liberal Democrats a chance. Many searched for more information on the Lib Dems during the debate and the aftermath – the volume of searches soared, well above any of the other parties. Then finding out about their policies, they chatted on Facebook and Twitter some more.
