Welcome to this blog by the directors of for Dim Sum Digital Ltd.
Who we are
Dim Sum Digital was started in 2012 by Sarah and Julian Hartley and is a vehicle to deliver projects in news, data and arts engagement.
What we do
Currently focussed on news start-up The Northern Eco – acting locally when it comes to the climate crisis. @thenortherneco on Twitter.
It builds on Sarah’s experience in journalism innovation and seeks to inspire and empower readers to make changes in their local environment.
CONSULTANCY & TRAINING
Sarah can help journalists and news organisations navigate the fast-changing digital media environment to take advantage of new business opportunities.
Having many years of experience, in both the corporate ‘big tech’ world as well as startups and local newsrooms, she offers assistance with:
- New editorial product launches. Previous launches include spin out startups at The Guardian (n0tice, Contributoria, Guardian Local). Most recently, I’ve been exposed to many hundreds of global news innovation projects through my work at the Google News Initiative. Let me use that experience to help shape your news project. Could I help you draw up an editorial engagement strategy or maybe simply be a safe, discreet sounding board for your ideas? News organisations of all sizes need innovation to thrive.
- Funding applications. I’m interested in working with small organisations (or individuals), non-profits, charities and similar to help maximise their chances of success. Experience of funders to date includes Google, Arts Council England, Nesta, Indigo Trust.
- Digital thinking and social media training. Being always excited to support groups looking to learn more about the online world. While previous training experience has been aimed at so-called journo-preneurs and citizen journalists in the UK and overseas, she’s also open to working with nonprofits and groups working for social good. Sarah can offer bespoke training ranging on everything from “what is this Threads thing?” to fully formed community and engagement strategies.
Julian is currently working full-time in the leadership team at Rural Arts in Thirsk. He can be contacted via Julian AT ruralarts.org.
