The wheels on the bus (can’t) go round and round

The message boards of the blogosphere are currently abuzz with this lovely spot.

The mechanical impossibility of this Metroshuttle illustration of three cogs has been amusing plenty of the city’s commuters.
“The north west’s rich historical contribution to engineering destroyed by a poster :)” laughs The Great Architect while a poster called masakatsu adds that the service’s catchline should perhaps be changed to read: “Manchester Metroshuttle. Where everything grinds to a halt?”

Nothing to do with the cogs but I’d suggest –
“Metroshuttle: It’s easier to walk to where you’re going.”
“Metroshuttle: Tailgate one of our buses through those bollards by the Printworks – you’ll be ok. Honest!”
“Metroshuttle: Making the city work together but we don’t go anywhere near where you want to go.”

That’s my photo! I still have the original on my phone (that’s also my reflection!). When I e-mailed this to some friends pointing out how flawed the design was I didn’t realise it would go so far! Cool!
