Congestion campaigners get viral

The congestion charge “yes” campaign has turned to social media in a bid to get its message out.
This striking video clip of stuck people at Piccadilly Station was released onto a newly launched dedicated Yes Campaign YouTube channel on Wednesday.
It’s already had over 3,000 views and the viral power of social media platforms has come into its own with campaigners also mobilising support on Facebook and Twitter.

* Note to the ‘No’ campaigners: This blog is about Manchester’s use of digital media, it is not part of the campaign for, or against, the proposed Congestion Charge in any way. I haven’t come across any viral digital campaigning against the charge (yet) but if you have produced an equivalent – please forward me details and I will also post details on that.

That looks like a very expensive video to me, I wonder what the budget was like?
It doesn’t really feel like a “viral” video to me, just a professional TV advert that’s been uploaded to Youtube

Hi Miss S – you’re absolutely right; here’s the search results link too http://uk.youtube.com/results?search_query=congestion+manchester&search_type=
However, I’m not aware that they’ve also engaged a viral multi-platform approach to engage people. If you’re involved, perhaps you can answer that question for me?? Happy to feature any that have

Posting an ad on youtube is a bit 1.0.
The No campaign have been using viral for months now and the numbers and weight of support on Facebook for the no campaign tells its own story.
The spoof miserable “I won’t pay the charge” posters have been doing the rounds for ages.

I thought it was a really good viral but I will still vote no!

Disppointed that they’ve just blatently stole the idea from January’s Improv Everywhere, but I guess it gets the point across.
I’ve just read today that the metrolink doesn’t get the government funding for expansion if there’s a NO vote on the congestion charge plans.
    Personally, I’ll be voting YES.

Coxy – at the very least if there is a no vote, extension plan 3a will still go ahead which is the majority of the planned extensions. TIF actually buys very little if you read the maps and information carefully.
Do you really believe that there will be no improvements ever again to public transport if this doesn’t get voted in?
