Mapping Creativity: The winners are…..

After what turned out to be a rather more drawn out process than initially expected, the winner of Manchester’s £25K commission for a digital project was announced this week – Arc Space.
The Mapping Creativity initiative, which initially got underway in the summer, aimed to unearth “an interactive project that drives Manchester’s collective creativity”.
Organisers said the commissioned project will use disruptive, open source or social technologies to aggregate and maximise Manchester’s resources
Following a public voting round, about 40 applications were whittled down to four, and then three, finalists who eventually pitched their ideas to a panel drawn from the University of Salford, University of Manchester, b:tween and Manchester Beacon before the finalists were once again put through more online voting.
The video clip below shows the winning bid where Arc Space’s Victoria Sinclair explains how the money will be used.

The organisers haven’t yet released the judge’s comments on the final decision but I will update this blog just as soon as they come through.
Disclosure: I was involved in one of the unsuccessful bids – Community as Curator.

Congratulations to the ARC Space. I look forward to visiting soon. It seems to me that the team has a lot of support, a large and diverse network and plenty of passion and energy.
The Mapping Creativity competition brought a lot of interesting well intentioned people and ideas together. It would be good to see them gather around The ARC Space project where they might be able to cook up some more good ideas and curate them in new inspiring ways in 2009

Way to go ARC Space, I hope that the project creates a really good sustainable collaborative space for the local community and beyond.
