Stand by Manchester for the city’s first Twestival

Manchester’s twitterfolk are mobilising for the city’s first ever Twestival in February to have some fun and food but also to raise money and awareness of one of the biggest challenges facing the planet – water resources.
For the uninitiated, the Twitter micro-blogging platform has proven worldwide its ability to network people together in a common cause.
If the incredible organisational power of the social networking platform has passed you by up to this point, then last week’s news events may have changed your mind as the very first reports of the Hudson River aircrash beamed into your PC thanks to a US twitterer.
Now that organisational ability is being leveraged by groups in 105 (at the time of this posting) cities around the world by volunteers coming together to raise money for charity water – and have a good time in the process.
Organiser of the Manchester event Katie Moffat told me more; “There has been one Twestival held before in London but this is the first time that anything has been done on this scale.
“The Manchester Twestival will be an evening event involving music, drinks, a charity raffle or auction, plus other bits and pieces yet to be announced.
“We are still in the planning stages but have already had lots of interest in the night from people wanting to attend and from potential sponsors. Early next week we will have finalised a venue, the Manchester page of the main Twestival site will be live and we will be sending out official invitations. ”
