Can Twitter really help Pakistan?

As bloggers and networked journalists what should our response be to global disasters such as the one in Pakistan right now?

What’s the point of being able to collaborate, share an important message at the click of a button, initiate a response if it can’t be sometime mobilised for some good cause?

The wired world means being just a click away from the heartbreaking witness reports such as this and images such as these .

I’m fortunate enough to have several thousand followers on Twitter and this blog is syndicated around a few places where influential people read and participate.

I’d like to think that might mean something more than a ripple in the echo chamber some times.

So I’ve downloaded the DEC’s Pakistan Appeal button that you can click on above, sent my own donation and am hoping other bloggers in my network might want to follow suite.

I’m not going to apologise for the linkbait headline, if it got you here with some chance of donating, that’s just fine but, of course Twitter can’t help Pakistan. You can.

Just the minimum online donation from every one of my Twitter followers would add up to more than £15K – a whole lot more than hot air……..
